TAKING SUSTAINABILITY FURTHER
Here at Green Dragon, we use a cyclical process that makes everything we do environmentally friendly, completely sustainable and totally traceable. The way we do things is unique, and is completely different to large commercially made fuels.
We grow oilseed as a break crop to keep the farm soil nice and fertile. It means we don’t need to clear huge areas of land that could be used for other things like growing food. The process starts in the fields. We harvest the seed, press the oil and are left with the husk. One of the things we really like is that we use our rapeseed to make all kinds of products – oil for cooking and dressing, animal feed, organic fertiliser and engine oil – even oil spillage soak-up kits! We use 100% of the rapeseed with nothing added, nothing taken away and no waste.
Our process goes in one year cycles. The first year is the only one that consumes any fossil fuel. Rapeseed is grown every year and the oil we get from the seeds can fuel the farm machinery the next year we harvest. Eventually we have enough oil to power all the machinery.
